2013 Women's Theatre FestivalOur 2013 directors were Nkoto Malebye, Diamond Mokoape, Denel Honeyball and Nonthemba Sulupha | Nkoto MalebyeNkoto created a beautiful musical. The voices of her cast sent thrills through the audience. We were completely captivated with this piece from the rehearsal stage. The production included a live band. The story looks at the musical business with its foils and folly. The production was featured at the Human Rights Festival at the Windybrow Theatre end of March 2014 after appearing in the 2013 Women's Theatre Festival. |

Lerato La Daddy | Diamond MokoapeDiamond directed, "This is for keeps" for our 2013 festival. The work was incredibly powerful and moving. The piece hones in on truths we all can relate to with the subtle violence of relationships. |
This Is For Keeps | Denel HoneyballDenel has huge respect for Franca Rame and a group of directors/playwrights who work with physical comedy. She says, "Sometimes the best way to think about things is to laugh about them...rather than to depress and teach". Franca was a playwright and activist who suffered great atrocities for her beliefs. "Despite what she went through, she stood up for what she believed in". Denel's Same Old Story had us rolling with laughter. |
Same Old Story | Nothemba SuluphaWe were excited to have representation from the Alex community with Nothemba - an Alex resident. Nothemba directed her own piece. It centred around the stories of different women who sit in an abortion clinic reception area. There are flashbacks to their lives and the interplay of events that bring them to this point. It also focuses on a nurse who deals with the challenge of infertility. It is a very strong concept that we know is going to go from strength to strength. |
